I submitted Notice of Thesis Submission Form on 6 June 2011. After this form, then only another form Notice for Viva Voce can be submitted. While waiting for the form to be processed by the Postgraduate Office, I am now editing my chapters. One of the committee members whom I consulted regularly required me to change a few things. That is what I'm doing at the moment. I also seek assistance from another committee member to read my Chapter 2. My main supervisor was informed that one of the committee members have checked the chapters (my first draft). He said he would be reading it. When I met him the other day, he said he was quite busy and would do so after he went back from oversea. As far as publication is concerned, I submitted 2 abstracts for conferences in September. And I attempt to submit an article for a book chapter for another conference if my full paper is accepted by the conference committee. Perhaps anyone who is reading this can give me insights into the "best practice of writing for journal paper"?
Another thing, I'll be back to work next week! I applied for extension but the Dean didn't sign my application at that time. Last time the univ. decided that all staff are not eligible for extension, only extreme case would be considered (this applied to those studying abroad). But it was just recently that the Study Leave Unit came out with a guideline for staff applying for extension. I think it's because of the complaints made by some staff studying abroad (they need to work as the univ. didn't support their tuition fees anymore. So I was told but not sure how true it was). It was peculiar in that established universities are able to get at least four months for extension, but not in our univ. Staff exceeded three years of studying needs to come back to work. Due to this, the univ. reviewed the policies; so I believed. And therefore, my previous application was signed by the Dean of the Department this week. The executive staff in my Department required me to report for duty and wait for the result of the Study Leave Unit meeting next month. Sounds chaotic, right? When I thought about it, I guess it's funny and at the same I time, I think the univ. needs to be more concern with their staff's well-being. Expect the Unexpected ;-)
